Resolved Question: My motorcycle cut out due to an electrical fault & I want to know what needs fixing, read paragraph below.?

I was on my way to Great Yarmouth and about 100 miles into the journey my motorcycle cut out and wouldn't start again, about 10 minutes before it cut out, the speedo and rev counter stopped working. I left the bike standing for 2 days (I didn't disconnect the battery or charge it) and now it has started no problems. I was told by the recovery driver that it's probably the alternator, but surely the bike would not have started after being left for 2 days if it was the alternator not working. At the time of the breakdown I had been doing 70mph in 6th gear (doing around 5,000rpm) for quite a while and my theory is that the alternator may not be sending enough power to the battery at those revs, would like to know if I'm right or wrong and if i'm wrong I would like to know what is wrong.
